Website Design & Development

Design and build of business websites — from a small brochure site to a structured multi-section site on the CMS that fits.

Who this is for

Businesses that need a new site, or a rebuild of one that no longer works. If you already know which CMS you want, go straight to that page; if you do not, start here.

What you get

  • Discovery: what the site has to achieve, for whom, and how success is judged
  • Information architecture and page structure
  • Responsive design that works from small phones upward
  • Build on the CMS chosen for your requirement, not a default
  • Accessibility and performance considered during build, not retrofitted
  • URL preservation and redirects when replacing an existing site
  • Editor training and written handover

What this does not include

  • Content writing and photography, unless added separately
  • Ongoing hosting and maintenance, which are separate services
  • Paid advertising and campaign management

What this covers

Strategy, structure, design and build. In practice most of the value is decided before anyone opens a design tool: what the site is for, who it is for, what it has to make easy, and what it can leave out.

How we approach a build

Discovery. What the site has to achieve, and how you will know whether it did. This is short, but skipping it is how sites end up beautiful and useless.

Structure. Information architecture before visual design. What the pages are, how they relate, and what someone arriving from a search result needs to see first.

Design. Responsive from the start, small screens first, because that is where most visitors are.

Build. On the CMS that fits the requirement. Accessibility and performance are considered while building rather than audited afterwards, because retrofitting either is more expensive than doing it once.

Handover. Training and written documentation, so the site is yours to run.

Replacing an existing site

If you already have a site, its URLs are an asset. Search rankings and inbound links attach to addresses, and a rebuild that quietly changes them throws that away.

Mapping old addresses to new ones is part of the work. So is checking afterwards that the mapping actually holds.

Frequently asked questions

Which CMS will you use?

Whichever fits the requirement. We have a page on choosing between them, and we will make a recommendation with reasons rather than defaulting to whatever we built last.

What happens to our existing URLs?

They should keep working. Replacing a site without redirecting its old addresses discards search rankings and breaks every inbound link. We treat that mapping as part of the build.

Do you write the content?

Not by default. Content writing is a separate service. If you want us to do it, say so at scoping so it is in the estimate.

How long does it take?

It depends entirely on scope, and anyone who quotes a duration before understanding the requirement is guessing. We give a timeline with the estimate.
