What Moodle is

When Moodle is the right choice

- Compliance or accreditation means the record matters as much as the content.
When it is not
- You only need to host and sell videos. A course plugin on your existing site is far less to run.
- One large course for a very large audience. Look at Open edX.
Integration is usually the real work
A Moodle build is rarely just a Moodle build. Learners exist in an HR or student system, payment happens elsewhere, and nobody wants a second set of credentials. Single sign-on, enrolment feeds and payment integration are typically where the effort goes, and they are worth scoping properly at the start.

Why Moodle rather than a course plugin on our website?
Because of assessment and tracking. If you need graded assessment, completion rules, cohort management and reporting that stands up to scrutiny, an LMS does that natively. If you only sell video access, a course plugin on your existing site is simpler and cheaper.
Moodle or Open edX?
Moodle suits institutional teaching with many small courses, varied assessment and per-cohort administration. Open edX suits large-scale structured courses delivered to many learners at once. The deciding factor is usually cohort size and how much per-learner administration you need.
Can it connect to our existing systems?
Yes — single sign-on, enrolment feeds from an HR or student system, and payment integration are all normal Moodle work.
