What Joomla is
Joomla is an open-source CMS that sits between a straightforward publishing tool and an application framework. Multi-language content and granular access control are built in rather than added by plugin, which is its clearest advantage.
When Joomla is the right choice
- You already run Joomla and the site works. Replatforming is expensive; there is no prize for changing CMS without a reason.
- You need serious multi-language support as a core feature.
- You need structured user permissions — members, tiers, restricted areas.
When it is not
- Starting fresh with no constraint. WordPress has a much larger pool of developers, which matters when you need to hire or replace a supplier.
- A simple brochure site. The flexibility costs complexity you will not use.
Taking over an existing Joomla site
A large share of Joomla work is inherited: a site built years ago, by someone unavailable, on a version that no longer receives security updates.
We start with an audit — what version, which extensions, what has been modified, what is no longer supported. That produces an honest choice between upgrading and rebuilding. Sometimes rebuilding is cheaper, and we would rather tell you that at the start than halfway through.

Usually. Major-version upgrades are migrations rather than updates, because extensions and templates often need replacing. We audit what you have first and tell you whether upgrading or rebuilding is better value — sometimes it is rebuilding.
Should we start a new site on Joomla?
Only for a reason. Joomla has strong built-in multi-language and access-control features, which is a genuine advantage for some projects. For ordinary content sites WordPress has a larger talent pool, which matters when you need to hire.
