Drupal Development
Drupal development for sites with structured content, complex editorial workflow, or strict access-control requirements.
Who this is for
Organisations with genuinely structured content — directories, catalogues, intranets, portals — and editorial or governance requirements that a simpler CMS cannot express.
What you get
- Drupal build, custom theme and content-type modelling
- Custom module development and contributed-module evaluation
- Editorial workflow, revisions and role-based access control
- Intranet and portal builds behind authentication
- Version upgrades and migration from earlier Drupal versions
- Integration with existing internal systems
What this does not include
- Hosting and infrastructure, unless bought separately
- Data cleansing during content migration, quoted separately when source data is inconsistent
- Content writing
What Drupal is good at
Drupal treats content as structured data rather than as pages. You define content types, the fields they carry and how they relate, and the system enforces that model. For a directory, a catalogue or a portal, that structure is the product.
Its second strength is governance: revisions, editorial workflow and role-based permissions are core features, not add-ons.
When Drupal is the right choice
- Content has real structure and relationships that matter.
- Several roles touch content and who-can-do-what is a requirement.
- The site is a portal or an intranet rather than a set of pages.
- You expect the content model to grow in complexity, not shrink.
When it is not
- An ordinary marketing site. The structure will not pay for itself.
- A small team with no technical owner. Drupal expects one.
Upgrades and inherited sites
Major-version Drupal upgrades are migrations, not updates: contributed modules may not have equivalents, and custom code usually needs rewriting. We audit what is installed before quoting, so the number reflects the work rather than a hope.
Frequently asked questions
Drupal or WordPress?
Drupal is stronger when content is structured and relationships between content types matter, and when editorial workflow and permissions are requirements rather than nice-to-haves. WordPress is stronger for publishing speed and hiring. Most sites are the second kind.
Is Drupal harder to maintain?
It expects more of whoever owns it, and major-version upgrades are real projects. In exchange you get a content model that holds up as requirements grow.
Can you upgrade our older Drupal site?
Yes. Older major versions need a migration rather than an update. We audit the modules and customisations first so the estimate reflects the actual work.
