Website Maintenance & Support
Ongoing updates, fixes and security patching for a site you already have — whoever built it.
Who this is for
Organisations with a working site and no one to look after it: no in-house developer, or an original supplier who is no longer available.
What you get
- Core CMS, theme, plugin and extension updates applied and tested
- Security patching, with urgent fixes prioritised
- Content updates and additions where you would rather not do them yourself
- Fixing broken pages, forms and links
- Backups, and verification that backups actually restore
- Uptime monitoring, so a failure is noticed before a customer reports it
What this does not include
- New feature development and redesigns, quoted separately
- Hosting fees, unless hosting is bought from us
- Third-party licence renewals, billed at cost
Why maintenance is not optional
A website is software. Left alone, it does not stay still — the CMS gets security updates, plugins get abandoned, integrations change their APIs, and certificates expire. The site does not degrade visibly. It works, until one day it does not, or until someone else finds the unpatched vulnerability first.
What this service is for
- You have no in-house developer.
- The person or agency who built the site is no longer available.
- Updates keep being postponed because nobody owns them.
- You need small content changes made without a project every time.
What we actually do
Updates are applied and then checked, because an update that silently breaks a form is worse than no update. Security patches jump the queue. Backups are taken and periodically restored to confirm they work — an untested backup is not a backup. Monitoring means a site that goes down is noticed by us rather than reported by your customer.
Inheriting a neglected site
Much of this work starts with a site in poor condition. We audit first: versions, what is unsupported, what has been customised, what will break on update.
That audit sometimes concludes that maintaining the site is not the best use of your money and a rebuild would cost less over two years. We would rather say that than sell you a retainer on something that should be replaced.
Frequently asked questions
Will you maintain a site you did not build?
Yes, and it is a large part of this work. We start with an audit of what is installed and what state it is in, so you get an honest picture before committing to anything ongoing.
What if the site is badly out of date?
We will tell you plainly. Sometimes catching up is straightforward; sometimes so much has been customised around old versions that a rebuild is better value. You will get the reasoning, not just a recommendation.
How quickly do you respond?
Response times are agreed when the arrangement is set up rather than promised in advance on a web page. Security issues take priority over everything else.
Do you take backups?
Yes — and we test that they restore. An untested backup is a hope, not a safeguard.
